Biography
Misha Kostrov is a Ukrainian-Canadian playwright, director, dramaturg, and Gestalt therapist with over two decades of experience in theatre, film, and teaching. His creative journey blends the worlds of storytelling, psychology, and performance — making his work deeply personal, innovative, and impactful.
Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Misha began his artistic path in the renowned Black Square Theatre (BST), where he studied acting, directing, and drama. His early stage work included performing and directing notable productions such as Eric’s Room. He later moved to Canada, earning a degree in Film from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), where several of his student films won Jury Prizes at the Toronto Student Film Festival.
Misha’s filmmaking career includes a diverse range of projects, from powerful social commentary in short films to acclaimed feature works. His film “Infernal Guidon, or Cossack Christmas” earned him the Ukrainian Film Academy Award, Audience Choice. His directorial work has also been recognized with the Platinum Remi Award and the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards Silver Dolphin.
